Video Game Console Repair
There is nothing more dreaded than seeing that flashing red light on a video game system that you love. Almost all of us video game enthusiasts have been there: You are halfway through a great campaign mission and then all of sudden, it freezes and you see the red ring or button of death. This has happened across a variety of different systems and once you see it, you may think you are doomed.
The reason it sucks a lot is that video game systems and consoles are so expensive these days. There are some that cost well over $700, and being an avid video game player is a financial investment.
That is why taking care of your console is so important, but sometimes things are unavoidable and you do have to have your video game console repaired. So, what should you do, and where should you go?
What to do in the first place: Video Game Console Repair
The first thing to do is try and determine the cause of why the console needs to be repaired. This can be a variety of reasons; sometimes it is simply caused by overheating, sometimes it is just a technical defect, sometimes it can be a lot of dust in the system.
On the other hand, there are many repairs that are needed because of something you caused such as spilling water on the system, or dropping it on a hard surface. Whatever the case may be, the first thing you should do is completely unplugging it and just leave it alone.
Let it rest, fully off, for over 24 hours and leave it somewhere sitting off the ground. The next day, plug it back in and see if it works. If it just overheated, chances are it works good now and you may simply need additional ventilation. This can be achieved by putting it in a new location, or somewhere colder.
However, if the problem persists and it just isn’t working, it may be time to seek the advice of a professional.
Finding a repair place
If you do not have any experience with video game consoles and their repair, we recommend NOT to open up your system. Even though there are plenty of online tutorial videos about what to do in certain cases, if you make one mistake yourself, it can mean the complete end to your system. Seeking advice from an authorized source is always the way to go, if you take the time to go and speak to them.
Before you just hand over your system, we recommend going in and just having a conversation with them about what to do. They may recommend that you do it yourself, or they may break your heart and tell you it is over for that system; this will just save you some money.
The problem with some video game console repair places is that they are expensive. Never put in the amount of money it costs to buy a new system into an old system! Why spend so much money on your broken system? Just get a new one! We understand there is definitely sentimental value, and the main reason is the hard drive and your saved games, but sometimes it is just not worth it.
The best thing you can do is just take it in and get it diagnosed by a professional. They will tell you your options and you can consider what to do next. Sometimes it is just a matter of replacing one thing for $50, but once it starts getting up into the hundreds of dollars, we think it may be time to rethink things.
In order to prevent any video game console repairs that you might need, we have come up with certain things you can do!
First off, place your console in a dry place with a lot of air. Do not trap it in some cabinet where it just collects dust. Dust will cause the inside to just stop working. Also, do not stack anything too heavy on top of the system, damaging the disc drive. The biggest thing you can do is to just be careful around your system and try not to inflict any of the damage yourself.
